The two most commonly used suppliers of water heaters to the RV industry are Atwood and Suburban; however, there are CSA-approved tankless or instantaneous models available from Atwood and Girard that are being used by some RV manufacturers. The two most common brands mentioned above will consist of an insulated tank, which will be a clad aluminum lining with the Atwood and a porcelain-lined steel tank in the Suburban. They will usually be in a six-gallon or gallon version.
They consist of a flue assembly routed through the interior of the tank to transfer heat from the LPG burner to the water, a gas control valve that is either a manually-operated pilot model or a solenoid controlled by the DSI direct spark ignition circuit board, which also provides a spark to the electrode at the burner. As well, both are available with the optional volt, watt electric element to provide two heat sources, depending on the services available to your RV.
Some motorhomes will have a heat exchanger option within the unit to keep the water hot while travelling. The RV water heater is rated by BTU British thermal units input and the rate of recovery, which is the number of gallons per hour the heater can raise the water temperature to degrees Fahrenheit. Usually heating is slower on electric than propane, but the recovery time will be greatly improved if operated on both sources when shore power service is available at the start-up phase.
Some things you can fix for yourself During the RV season it is not uncommon to have customers come in with an issue with the pressure and temperature relief valve dripping or weeping. The valve will release or pop if the temperature exceeds degrees Fahrenheit or water pressure exceeds PSI. In some cases, if the water pressure is above 50 PSI or an air pocket is not formed at the top of the tank, the valve may weep and replacement is not always required. You can install a water regulator to the city water inlet or provide an air pocket to the top of the tank.

Tired of lugging an extra propane tank around just for your BBQ? Which one you choose depends on whether your BBQ has a pressure regulator or not.
Typically, most BBQs will have a pressure regulator so you can connect the supply hose to the RV either way, that is, directly to the propane tank or after the the RV pressure regulator. If your BBQ does not have a regulator, then you must connect your supply hose to the low pressure side of the RV propane distribution hose or pipe. This is done by inserting a tee in to the supply line and fitting a quick disconnect valve to the tee. Then you fit a quick disconnect male fitting to the end of the BBQ supply hose and connect the hose to the quick disconnect valve.
To help reduce the amount of work necessary to retrofit the BBQ hookup mod to your RV, there are several kits available that make this mod really easy.

Low or No Water Pressure Sooner or later there will come a time when you discover, sometimes at an inopportune moment, that the water pressure in your RV is either very low or there is no flow at all. The clean system provides potable water and the other holds waste water, also referred to as black and gray water.
Here are some tips to help maintain the fresh water system: Do not use a simple garden hose to connect to a water source. Purchase a hose that is designed for drinking water. Drinking water hoses are usually white, and are lead free, bpa free and have no plastic or rubbery taste. When not in use, coil up the drinking water hose and connect the two ends together. Store in a clean compartment, not with the sewage hoses.
