I know most folks will want to see at least a resume, but for me, it was a no brainer, a LinkedIn Portfolio is the key. I make it a point not to look at resumes of candidates for positions at LexBlog. I look solely at their LinkedIn profile. For law students, building out a LinkedIn profile from the first day of law school ought to be a top priority. Employers want to see law grads with initiative and who are distinguishing themselves. Law students would be advised to view LinkedIn, as Kristina Corbitt kriscorbitt of LexBlog tells lawyers, as your portfolio.

Doing Time as a 1L January 24, Share this content: We will follow them through their educational journey, as well as join them as they venture out into the legal field. I began law school as a year-old Southern Californian fresh out of the cozy confines of college, convinced that taking a year off was not for me. I was on the fast track to success and no way did I want to pull over and refuel for gas.
I read every book and article published in the English language about law school and how to prevail in what was often described as a wasteland of casebooks, peers who laugh maniacally at your failure, and ridiculously high rates of alcoholism and depression. Orientation started as most law school orientations do:
Forging memories on the playing field. October 18, Duke Law News. John Schohl ’83 knew the first time he walked on to the intramural basket- ball court as a 1L that he was in a little over his head. I hope that these ten things will be useful to those considering a law degree and that current law students can relate to them. Career prospects Law is a well respected degree but its graduate prospects are not as good as universities like to make out.
Law firms and chambers have been reducing the number of training contracts and pupillages, with some firms cancelling their next trainee intake. Furthermore, a law degree does not guarantee riches. There is a stark contrast between the high earnings people think lawyers are paid and what they are actually paid.

EMAIL Meghan Walsh Photo courtesy of Walsh Meghan Walsh spent the past year tackling torts, civil procedures, contract law, constitutional law, criminal law, property law and the fundamentals of legal research and writing. She also worked to master the New York City subway system and wrestled over whether she wanted to root for the Brooklyn Nets.
In summer , the first time I interviewed Walsh in person, she shared some study abroad tips from her temporary home in Dakar, Senegal. I recently reconnected with her a few blocks from Brooklyn Law School , the highly-ranked legal institution where she wrapped up her first year this past spring. The law school timeline: Are you on track?
As she segues to 2L second-year law student status, I asked her to share some perspectives and advice related to surviving the opening round of law school. She also discusses the all-encompassing significance of final exams and the factors to weigh when determining whether to carve out time for extracurricular activities. What was the most surprising part of your law school experience this past year? I kind of went into law school blind, coming from a really small university as an undergrad.
We always helped each other so we could all succeed. Law school is not like that. Bottom line, there can be a dog-eat-dog mentality. Be ready for it.

Hipparchus[ edit ] Though there is still-controversial evidence that Aristarchus of Samos possessed distinct values for the sidereal and tropical years as early as c. According to Ptolemy ‘s Almagest , Hipparchus measured the longitude of Spica and other bright stars. He also compared the lengths of the tropical year the time it takes the Sun to return to an equinox and the sidereal year the time it takes the Sun to return to a fixed star , and found a slight discrepancy.
Virtually all of the writings of Hipparchus are lost, including his work on precession. They are mentioned by Ptolemy, who explains precession as the rotation of the celestial sphere around a motionless Earth. It is reasonable to presume that Hipparchus, similarly to Ptolemy, thought of precession in geocentric terms as a motion of the heavens, rather than of the Earth.
Ptolemy[ edit ] The first astronomer known to have continued Hipparchus’s work on precession is Ptolemy in the second century AD. Ptolemy measured the longitudes of Regulus , Spica , and other bright stars with a variation of Hipparchus’s lunar method that did not require eclipses. Before sunset, he measured the longitudinal arc separating the Moon from the Sun.
She had keen brown eyes and an adorably bewitching way of arching her eyebrow. She dimpled when giving a crooked smile, which was the only kind of smile she gave. Her hair was straight and brown and unassuming, usually thrown back in a no-nonsense ponytail, and she had this marvelously distinctive nose, full at the end and bumpy in the middle, which was a different shape depending on what angle you watched it from. She had a sexy solid build, big-boned and well-muscled, fit and gorgeously curvy.
Law School – 1L. Law School Check out newer law student blogs for more up-to-date information. Since my last advice post I received a lot of messages from 0Ls trying to choose between schools. Here are three common themes: 1) Prestige.
Without a doubt, it was the most intellectually challenging year of my life, as well as the most time consuming experience I have ever faced. Yet I certainly learned a lot, and I am glad I decided to go to law school. However, I recall that I was extremely nervous and uncertain the summer before my first year of school. I was also worried that the stress and time commitment might take a toll on my relationship with my girlfriend.
I am sure that these feelings of uncertainty are common amongst incoming 1Ls. But, thank goodness, I made it out of the first year alive. My relationship was not wrecked — it became stronger. I was also able to continue running miles per week during the year to stay in shape and relieve stress. Of course, there were many times during the year that sucked. Big legal writing assignments always seemed to coincide with big weeks of reading for my other classes, which also seemed to coincide with other plans.
But there are always going to be bumps in the road, and I made it through them, just as all of my classmates did.

Now, a lawmaker is hoping to change that with a bill rolled out Monday that would make such relationships a felony, even if the student is 18, and strip teachers of their pensions and retiree health care if they are convicted.
To prevent teachers from “grooming” students for relationships when they become adults, the bill would also criminalize seductive communication, such as sexual text messages.
