People at campgrounds are some of the friendliest most helpful people you will ever meet. I have seen it time and again when a camper pulls in and they are having problems with something and their next door neighbor, whom they never met, is right there to assist them. I have also observed and assisted several campers who were new to RVing and not really sure how to set their unit up when they arrive at the campground. While talking to these new Rvers it came up more than once how they wished that they had a checklist to follow to make things easier. I compiled over 25 checklists in an attempt to cover all aspects of RVing. This is an excerpt from the book to assist new campers when they arrive at the campground.

How much does it cost to live in an RV full-time? The actual cost varies by person and their lifestyle, but the major expenses for full-time RVing are the following: How do I determine the fair price of an RV? The best way to determine the fair price of new or used RV’s is to look at the actual selling price of similar units. This information can be gleaned from other RV owners, online auction sites, and RV dealers who make their selling prices public. Is an RV a good option as cheap, stationary housing?
An RV is usually not the cheapest housing option. Even with an inexpensive unit, the costs of the RV, site rent, electricity, and propane will be at or very near the rent of a small apartment. In addition, an RV will require more time and money to maintain than an apartment, eating into your savings. We have met individuals who live very frugally in small RV’s, but these are the exceptions—the lifestyle changes required to make this a reality would be considered too harsh by most.

We strongly encourage at least a basic water filter. It will keep small debris out of your water pump – it’s designed to pump water – not debris!
If you are NOT hooked up to city water, the fresh water tank must be filled to store fresh water for you. Then when you turn your faucet on, water will come out! Between the fresh water tank and your various water outlets will be a 12 Volt DC Water pump that pulls water from your tank and pressurizes your water lines – just like city water.

Now, just turn on the city water and you are good to go! We also suggest examining the whole line to make sure that there are no leaks.

How to Fill an RV Water Heater
We went for many years without a water filter on our RV. Once in a while I would attach an inexpensive, sediment filter to our water hose but it seemed like such a bother. After all, I reasoned, the campgrounds were either on treated city water systems or their well water was tested periodically. Besides, I always look at, smell and taste the campground’s water before I hook up to it. In over 35 years we’ve run across only three campgrounds whose water failed my look, smell and taste test.
But Joe’s eyesight and sense of smell isn’t what it used to be.

The winterization process can be a baffling practice for a new RV owner. It varies slightly depending on the model of the vehicle, but certain aspects are standard in all RVs. One such practice is the water heater bypass. RV hot water heater bypass valve Some water heaters come with a bypass valve installed which makes things super easy. If your RV does not have one, have it installed. It is located on the outside of your van, and is most likely located behind a large cover, with a screen on the upper right hand side.
Behind it you will find an anode which is usually removed, when draining the tank for winterization. The anode gets loose with age, so replace it when it starts to look aged. Now go into your RV and find the heater from the inside. You may need to remove a cover to access it. Cold water comes in at the bottom and hot water comes out of the top of the heater.
If your RV has a bypass valve, these two pipes will be connected directly to each other using a third pipe. The lever of the valve should point in the direction that you want the water to flow. If it is turned 90 degree towards the bypass line, it will flow into the bypass line and not enter the tank.
